PantryRecall

Is this product recalled? Check the barcode

Type the numbers under the barcode on your package, or scan it with your phone camera. We look it up in the FDA food recall records we collect every day.

Where to find the barcode number

Most U.S. food packages have a UPC barcode with 12 digits printed underneath it, usually on the back or the bottom. Small packages sometimes use a shorter 8-digit code; you can enter that too. Spaces and dashes do not matter.

How the lookup works

FDA recall notices list affected products in plain text. We pull out every barcode number we can find in those notices from the last three years and match your code against them, including codes written with missing or extra digits. If your barcode matches, we show the recall so you can compare the lot code and dates with your package.

What a “no match” means

A missing match is not a safety guarantee. Many recall notices identify products by name, lot code or date instead of barcode, and meat and poultry recalls come from USDA, which we do not include yet. When in doubt, check the recall page for the food and the lot code guide.

Camera scanning runs entirely in your browser. The camera image is never uploaded or stored, and the barcode you check is not sent to our server: the lookup happens on your device.
