About PantryRecall
PantryRecall answers one question quickly: is there a recall on the food in my kitchen right now? Official recall notices are published as long, date-ordered lists. We reorganize the same public data by food, so you can check a single item in seconds.
Where the data comes from
- FDA recall announcements (FDA Food Safety Recalls feed), usually published the same day a recall is announced.
- The FDA Enforcement Report via openFDA, with detailed records including classification, quantities and distribution, typically added a few weeks after a recall starts.
Meat, poultry and processed egg products are regulated by USDA FSIS and are not yet included. Our data bot identifies itself as PantryRecallBot and checks sources once a day.
How we decide a recall is “active”
- Enforcement Report records count as active when the FDA status is “Ongoing” and the recall started within the last 120 days. Older “Ongoing” records are shown as past recalls, because the status field is often not updated for years.
- New announcements not yet in the Enforcement Report count as active for 60 days.
Products are matched to foods by their product name, not their ingredient list. A cheese sandwich recall does not appear on the cheese page. Matching is automatic and can make mistakes; always rely on the official notice.
